Some people find it helps to have someone show you what to do. Oxford Cycle Workshop runs a membership scheme, whereby members can enrol for free cycle maintenance lessons and use the workshop’s tools. Membership for a year costs £25 ( £15 unwaged) – more details at

Bike Shops

Oxford has about a dozen bike shops of various sizes, which you can see on the map (yellow squares with a black cycle symbol). For details see this list. Most will do service checks and repairs.

Bike Doctor

If you don’t have much time or can’t get to a bike shop easily, you could always try the bike doctor. The two regular locations are for staff and students of the two universities, but day or half day visits to workplaces can be organised on request (a fee is charged).

The regular locations are:
Tuesdays 10 am – 4 pm term-time only, Oxford Brookes Gypsy Lane Campus

Wednesdays 10 am – 4 pm all year, Oxford University Science area

There are additional locations for Oxford University departments, call 01865 204799 or visit
