PUBLIC MEETINGS AND ACTIVITIES

Stalls – we have a stall at the Low Carbon Oxford fair in Broad Street on Saturday 13th June, to celebrate the start of Bike Week. We need a few volunteers who like talking about cycling to join us so that we can make the most of the opportunity to hear from cyclists and would-be cyclists. If you can spare an hour that day, let us know – email kathryn.@kmcnicoll.co.uk

Open meeting – this week on Thursday:  With the Plain now completed, it’s time to share our experiences and hear:  A Copenhagener’s view of The Plain Cycling Project

Yannick Cornet and Tim Schwannen from the University of Oxford Transport Studies Unit have conducted a series of interviews with cyclists using the Plain and will put their findings on The Plain project as well as the message for cycling advocacy.   Refreshments.  All welcome  Come along to tell us what you think.

CAMPAIGNING
Election fever, the morning after the night before
An election to remember and Cyclox played its part. For a bit of nostalgia, here are the links to far off days of last week.

Oxonbike Hire Scheme
Oxford’s own ‘Boris Bike’ scheme is almost doubling in size.  It has now expanded to include Oxford Health sites at Littlemore, Oxford Business Park and Warneford Hospital. his is great news, but we clearly need much more to make this scheme really useful, specifically bikes in the city centre, station, and other park and rides (in addition to the existing Thornhill). Money, of course, is the challenge. Oly Shipp, committee member who has championed the expansion asks: Do you have any ideas how a big further expansion could be funded? And would your organisation fund a dock where you work?  Would they sponsor the scheme?  Any other ideas? Contact oly@shipp.org

Bike Safe – the proposed cycle path from Eynsham to Botley
Bike Safe has been shortlisted for an award from Aviva – a grant of £10,000, so they need us to vote for Bike Safe.
