14. 6TH NOVEMBER 2018, RALLY AT COUNTY HALL, TO SUPPORT SAFE CYCLING INFRASTRUCTURE

9.30-10.30am County Hall, New Road, Tuesday 6th November

Suzanne Bartington, County Councillor and Oxfordshire Cycling Champion presents motion to full council

Cyclox is organising a mass rally outside County Hall to convince County Councillors of the importance of cycle infrastructure as they arrive for the council meeting at 10.30am. Item 18 on the agenda is Councillor Bartington’s motion which we hope all councillors will support.

We would urge members to ask their county councillors to support the motion and to sign the Space for Cycling pledge. Find your councillor here.

The meeting is held in public so you are free to attend in the visitors’ gallery. Robin Tucker and Simon Hunt have asked to speak.

The full motion is here – scroll down to item 18. The motions starts:  “This Council recognises our ambition to achieve economic growth whilst improving the health and wellbeing of communities in Oxfordshire.  Active travel provides an effective mechanism to achieve such goals, with potential to co-deliver multiple social, environmental and economic benefits. This council has recognised in LTP4 the importance of investment in sustainable transport and shares the Government’s Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy ambition to double cycling by 2025. Cognizant of Andrew Gilligan’s recent recommendations to the National Infrastructure Commission, it now wishes to accelerate progress towards this goal.”
