Cyclox public meetings – all welcome, drinks and refreshments, chance to chat

Have Brompton will travel!
Monday 19th October 7.30pm St Michael in the Northgate – note different day
Andrew Ritchie, inventor of the Brompton folding bike! This will be a talk to remember – the legendary folding bike is a British design success story. Come and hear how it happened. Because we expect there may be a lot of interest in this talk we have hired the church as well as the hall, so there will be plenty of room for all.

Cyclox AGM Tuesday 17th November, 7.30pm St Michael in the Northgate
With special guest author and journalist Carlton Reid whose talk to Cyclox last year was a great success. See http://www.roadswerenotbuiltforcars.com/

Oxford Cycle Shorts – A Cyclox Short Film Competition
You have a couple of months to make a short (1-5mins) film which aims to encourage cycling in Oxford. Go to  http://www.cyclox.org/film/ for more details. There is a huge cash prize, plus fame and publicity for all who take part. Closing date 21st November 2015.

Worn out Advanced Stop Boxes
A discussion on the Cyclox forum revealed that reporting worn out road markings to the county council appeared to be effective at getting them repainted. Cyclox would like to encourage you to report any worn ASLs and other cycle lane markings you know about to www.fixmystreet.com and tell Cyclox you have done it so we can see how effective we are together. Alternatively let one of the committee know and we will report it.

Oxford Parkway Station
With only two weeks to go before it opens, a letter in the Oxford Times from Tom Cross points out (as Cyclox has been doing for months) that the access from Cutteslowe for pedestrians and cyclists is abysmal and needs urgent improvement.

Local transport plan 4
LTP4 is now fully approved, by the whole County Council – so we hope the encouraging words will translate into action. Cllr Jean Fooks  successfully proposed an amendment “…Council therefore requests that LTP4 should be strengthened in its aims to reduce air pollution by more positively encouraging walking and cycling and restricting diesel vehicles in town centres…”  www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/cms/content/connecting-oxfordshire-2015-2031-ltp4

Cycle to the UN Climate Talks Paris December
Cyclox doesn’t have a political position but many of our members do, so they may be interested in ClimateKilometre who are organising a cycle from London to Paris. On Wed 9th December, a group will meet in London and cycle 200 miles over 3 days to Paris.  In Paris they will rendezvous with other cyclists who have ridden to UN Climate Talks from across Europe for a group ride around the Paris’ iconic city centre.  It is likely that this will be the biggest gathering of people calling for action on climate change that the world has ever seen; the question is do you want to be part of it? There’s no organisation or support crew, this is a DIY-style ride, but travel and accommodation details will be announced via a mail list, sign-up here:www.climatekilometre.com/subscribe.html

Cyclox will never share your email address with anyone.
