11. 10TH-18TH JUNE 2017, OXFORD BIKE WEEK

bike-week-2017There are lots of great events and rides for Oxford Week this year, which runs from 10th to 18th June, as well as some rides in the following week.

Cyclox is an enthusiastic supporter of Bike Week, and is particularly involved in the following:

On Saturday 10th June, Bike Week starts with the Big Green Day Out on Broad Street for most of the day, and Cyclox will be there with a stall.

On Monday 12 June at 6pm, Alison Hill will lead Cyclox’s Traffic-light-free city circle.  Is it possible to circle the city within the ring road avoiding traffic lights? This 11 mile cycle route achieves that, going along quiet city roads and the canal and river avoiding any traffic lighted junctions and using Pelican and Toucan crossings to cross main roads. The ride will take up to 2 hours and starts at the Tourist Information Centre at Broad Street, 6pm for a 6:15pm start.  Ride Leader/Contact: Alison Hill at 4lison.hill@gmail.com.

On Thursday 15th June at 5.30pm OR 6.15pm, Jonny Ives will lead the Cyclox Evening Ride – The Quarry-Roubaix ride.  Start: Masons’ Arms in the Quarry at 5.30pm or Weston Library steps, Broad Street at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start.  Description: In homage to the Paris-Roubaix bike race we will be taking to the streets of Oxford to see how many stretches of cobbles we can find. Part of Oxford Bike Week, this short and occasionally bumpy ride will visit Jericho and many of the most famous landmarks of Oxford’s city centre to savour just a taste of what the professional riders who take on the pavé of the spring classics have to endure.  However, it’s also a lovely fairly gentle evening ride, giving a different view of Oxford. Suitable for beginners and riders able to ride 6 miles or more. Meet at the Weston Library Steps on the Broad at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start. (Or the Mason’s Arms pub at 5.30p.m. for the full “Quarry-Roubaix experience”.  Ride time: about one hour.  Return to the Broad c. 7.30pm.  Post-ride debate in the King’s Arms c.7.35pm.  Any bike will do and anyone who can ride a bike will be fine.  Ride Leader / Contact: Jonathan (Jonny) Ives at jonathan@quarrycomms.co.uk.
