The Journey of a Lifetime: Cycling from Oxford to Tehran

Iraj Maghounaki

In August 2021, Iraj Maghounaki set out on a 6,500km (4,000+ mile) bike ride from Oxford to the capital of Iran.

Passing through 12 countries over 65 days, Iraj travelled alone for long periods and was entirely self-sufficient throughout the journey. As you can imagine, he had to deal with all sorts of unpredictable situations and he has many heart-warming stories about the kindness of strangers.

Iraj raised over £12,500 for Oxfordshire Mind. You can make a donation via his Just Giving page.

"Cycling has helped me with my mental health journey. When I ride, I feel as free as a bird and my mind is calmer and more focussed."

Read more about Iraj's journey here - the photos of Tehran alone will make you want to visit!
