We hear fatal and severe crashes described as \u2018accidents\u2019, but these life-changing tragedies are preventable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vision Zero is a proactive and preventative approach that prioritises traffic safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:0px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:42px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:30px\">Oxford&#8217;s approach now<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-white-color has-black-background-color has-text-color has-background has-medium-font-size wp-block-list\"><li>Traffic deaths are<em> inevitable<\/em><\/li><li>Assumes<em> people will behave perfectly<\/em><\/li><li>Reduce collisions<\/li><li><em>Road user responsible<\/em> for safety<\/li><li>Saving lives is <em>expensive<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:42px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:30px\">Vision Zero<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-white-color has-text-color has-background has-medium-font-size wp-block-list\" style=\"background:linear-gradient(114deg,rgb(2,3,129) 0%,rgb(3,159,224) 100%)\"><li>Traffic deaths are<em> preventable<\/em><\/li><li>Assumes<em> people will make mistakes<\/em><\/li><li>Prevent <em>fatal and severe crashes<\/em><\/li><li><em>Road system is responsible<\/em> for safety<\/li><li><em>Failing to save lives is<\/em> <em>expensive<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:42px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:30px\">We are campaigning for:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-list\"><li><strong>High quality protected cycle lanes <\/strong>reduce conflicts with motor vehicles, especially HGVs which cause a disproportionately large number of serious and fatal cycling crashes.<\/li><li><strong>Safe junctions and crossings<\/strong> for<strong> <\/strong>people walking and cycling because this is where fatalities and and serious injuries are most likely to happen.<\/li><li><strong>A 20 mph speed limit<\/strong> across the city would reduce the severity and frequency of road casualties.<\/li><li><strong>Safety standards for HGVs<\/strong> coming into the city and their drivers trained in safe urban driving.<\/li><li><strong>A significant reduction in car trips <\/strong>makes roads safer for walking and cycling.
